Eleven Humanities Institutes Abroad Worldwide
The Max Weber Foundation currently maintains eleven humanities institutes abroad. The institutes abroad are autonomous institutes within the framework of the statutes and carry out independent academic work. They conduct their own research and promote cooperation with academics as well as institutes within their own areas of work, in particular through publications and academic events, academic information and consultation, mediation of academic contacts, promotion of young historians, especially through scholarships as well as setting up and administering libraries and archives.
Metamorphoses of the Political
The ‚M. S. Merian – R. Tagore International Centre of Advanced Studies‘ (ICAS:MP) in New Delhi has been financed by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research since 2015.
Asian Infrastructures
Since 2017, the DIJ Tokyo has maintained a research group at the National University of Singapore (NUS). Under the guiding theme of "Borders, Mobility and New Infrastructures", researchers from NUS and DIJ have been working on cross-border infrastructures and new dimensions and spaces of interactions in Japan and Southeast Asia.
The Bureaucratization of African Societies
The Max Weber Foundation funded the transnational research group (TFG) “The Bureaucratisation of African Societies” in Dakar from 2017 to 2021.
Knowledge Unbound
From 2019 to 2021 the large-scale “Knowledge Unbound: Internationalisation, Networking, Innovation in and by the Max Weber Stiftung” research project pursued the aim of opening up innovative areas of research.
